Altai painter acquired his popularity at the beginning of 1990. It was favoured by the personal exhibitions in Moscow (1992), in Yakut Autonomous Republic (1993), in Barnaul (1994,1995), as well as by the participation in the exhibitions of different levels: from the state international.
Sergey Prokhorov was born in 1956 in the picturesque Altai village Habari. The Scope and the beauty of the native country formed the spirit and the mind of the painter, encroaching them with the harmony and understanding of the unity of the nature and human.
Sergei Prokhorov has a fundamental artistic education. In 1976 he graduated from the Art School in Novo-Altaisk on design major under the leadership of the authoritative teacher Vladimir Ramensky; in 1988 he graduated from State Art Institute in Krasnoyarsk, Far-East-Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Art at the studio of the outstanding painter and teacher Anatoly Znaka.
Sergei Prokhorov is a master of the landscape paintings. Landscape is the most popular genrepainting in Russia. It's national traditions are very deep. Russia landscape-painters gave the world unique philosophical, lyrical and epic paintings. In the XX century on Altai traditions of the national landscape developed artists Grigory Ivanovich Gurkin (1870-1937), Andrei Osipovich Nikulin, and their spiritual followers. Sergei Prohorov develops this traditions. Especially he is close to Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin, who glorified Russian forests and scopes, who could combine love to nature with talented generalization of the most important in the image.
Sergei Prokhorov is the landscape painter of the new trend. In his creative methods he applies to traditions of the classical realistic art of the West Europe of the 17,18 and the beginning of 19 centuries. First of all they are Holland and Germans landscapes. Mainly in the landscape-paintings we see growely found composition, classically consistent numerous plans: tones, colors, light and air. Coloring mainly is golden, different green shades, rarely - brownish. Substantial study of the foreground as well as background.
His favorite subjects are: brick grove, pine forest, coppice, depths of the forest, secular taiga, rivers and streams among brushwood and waterfalls, shady country - cottages old houses drowned in green... He loves sunsets, sun-rises, hot noons - everything, where there are special possibilities to reflect the lights. For example, radiance of the rising-sun disk over the horizon trough numerous trunks of larch - trees, taiga brushwoods, grasses. Or luxuriance of the significant poplars somewhere in the Barnaul outskirts when summer is at its height, and when the sun is in its zenith. Or, often too violet sunsets in the forest. Titles are typical: "Before the Thunders form", "Road in Taiga", "Shady Yard", "Sunset", "Sunset in the North".
Prokhorov assimilates this motives not only because of the definite traditional nature, but of the opportunity to express his philosophy in the interlacing of the crowns, in the bends of the trunks, in the colors of the venture and in the mass of different small things. This complex pictorial spatial environment together with the sun rays, play of lights, depth of the sky, shape of the clouds, create an abundant structure for the deep reflection. Light rays, coming through all this labyrinths of the earthly creatures, make sensations of the mysterious sound of the Universe, as it of some great music of the world, similar sound of Bach among Gothic Cathedral archers.
Painter loves Bach, likes to repeat that Vernadsky, opened his cosmogony listening Bach. Problem of the picture's fluorescence attracts Sergei Prohorov. Her peculiar luminescence, like of the old masters, luminescence of the whole canvas, of the color, high light, fluorescence of the colors variety. Trough the traditions of Russia and Europe, through the life specific of the canvas, painter crave to reveal, express grandeur and beauty of the eternal harmony of Cosmos.
